Wintery Showings

Writer: Amanda WolfAmanda Wolf

Since winter has officially hit this past week, we should probably discuss wintery listings during these snowy, cold months of the year and a few tips & tricks to keep your home in tip top listing condition.

10 MUST DOES IN WINTERY CONDITIONS

  1. Keep your walkway, steps and stoop shoveled.

  2. Sand the ice. If ice or slippery conditions are present, we suggest using sand as it isn't as harsh on the concrete but will help reduce the risk for any falls on your property.

  3. Driveway shoveled, snow blowed or plowed. A home is much more welcoming when you don't have to walk through the snow to get to the door.

  4. Have a shovel readily available especially if the home is vacant. As much as we all would like, sometimes its impossible to keep up with the snow. We suggest having a shovel for anyone that might end up showing your home before you have a chance to get to it.

  5. Add a rug or mat large enough for those coming to see the home room to remove their possibly snow covered shoes. This should be at any door they may enter, for example if they would use the back door to go look at the shed or walk the fenced backyard.

  6. Encourage viewers to sit and take off their boots with a chair or bench near the rug at the front entrance. This will help to ensure the snow, ice and possibly mud stay at the rug and your home will be ready for the next viewers.

  7. Clean up the poop, yes, even if its frozen and doesn't stink yet, those little black piles are eye targets in the white snow. Don't make you potential buyer have a reason to question how well the property is maintained.

  8. Make sure doors are not frozen shut, or the locks.

  9. The heat is on. If the home can be heated, make sure it is enough that the potential buyers won't question frozen pipes unless the home has been properly winterized.

  10. Remove icicles from the exterior of the home if this can be done safely and without causing damage to your home. These beauties of nature can be dangerous if falling on to walkways. They also make the home look less maintained.
